Tourists and locals flock to the area all year round to taste world class wines. The beautiful valleys and mountain ranges are truly picturesque. The locals are friendly and most wine farms have a restaurant either on location or nearby where lunch can be enjoyed.
Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and the historic heart of the country’s wine region. In 1679, Dutch East India Company governor Simon van der Stel, noticed the fertility of this long valley as ideal for vineyards. Van der Stel’s foresight led to the growth of one of the world’s best wine regions. A graceful mix of 18-century Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings are still popular in the area giving Stellenbosch an “old school” charm.
There are a few Stellenbosch wine tours available which include popular wine farms.
